Newly confirmed U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, Jeanine Pirro, announced plans to push for lowering the age at which violent offenders can be charged as adults. In an interview with Fox News\u2019 Laura Ingraham, Pirro expressed concern over escalating youth violence in Washington, D.C., highlighting alarming crime statistics, including a 111% increase in carjackings and 99 homicides so far this year.<\/p>\n
Pirro emphasized that many violent crimes are committed by juveniles who face little accountability. She cited a recent brutal attack on a White House staffer by a group of teenagers, noting that two 15-year-olds were arrested but would be handled in family court, not criminal court. \u201cThey\u2019re not considered criminals,\u201d she said. \u201cThey go to family court where the focus is on rehabilitation.\u201d<\/p>\n
Pirro blamed D.C.\u2019s Democratic leadership and lenient policies, including the Youth Incarceration Act, for fostering a culture of impunity. She described a case where a youth who shot someone on a bus received probation, not prison time, despite using an illegal firearm.<\/p>\n
She told Ingraham that President Trump supports her efforts to enforce stricter laws and improve safety in the capital. \u201cThe president wants accountability,\u201d she stated, vowing to deliver it. Pirro said it\u2019s time to stop \u201ccoddling\u201d teenagers involved in violent crime and lower the age of criminal responsibility to 14.<\/p>\n
Ingraham agreed, noting that gangs exploit the system by using younger members for serious crimes, knowing they\u2019ll face minimal consequences. \u201cAccountability,\u201d Pirro said. \u201cIt\u2019s time to end it.\u201d<\/p>\n
