Rep. Tim Burchett Open to Senate Seat if Blackburn Becomes Governor<\/strong><\/p>\n

MAGA-aligned Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) has expressed interest in possibly filling Sen. Marsha Blackburn\u2019s (R-TN) Senate seat if she vacates it to run for governor in 2026. Blackburn announced her gubernatorial bid this week, a move that would require her to leave the Senate if successful. She was just re-elected to her Senate seat in 2024.<\/p>\n

Burchett, a former Knox County mayor now serving his fourth term in Congress, is known for his affable demeanor and bipartisan approach in Washington. He frequently shares lighthearted videos on social media, where he can be seen chatting with colleagues from both sides of the aisle\u2014including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY)\u2014while discussing legislative updates with constituents.<\/p>\n

Though Burchett had previously considered a gubernatorial campaign, Blackburn\u2019s high profile and deep support within the GOP would likely diminish his chances. Should Blackburn win the governor’s race and succeed current Gov. Bill Lee, she would be tasked with appointing a temporary replacement to the U.S. Senate. Burchett is seen as a possible contender for that appointment.<\/p>\n

In an interview with the Washington Examiner<\/em>, Burchett stated, \u201cMy focus is on the second congressional district\u2026 but if I were given that opportunity, I would take it.\u201d He stressed that it’s still early and Blackburn must first win both the Republican primary and general election before any Senate seat becomes available.<\/p>\n

When asked about running for Senate in 2030, Burchett declined to commit. \u201cIt\u2019s very premature,\u201d he said. \u201cBut if I was asked, I would sure like that opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
