Republican National Committee (RNC) Chair and North Carolina Senate candidate Michael Whatley criticized Democrats Friday, saying they have \u201clearned absolutely nothing\u201d from their 2024 election losses. Speaking to Fox Business, Whatley accused Democrats of doubling down on a \u201cfailed agenda\u201d focused on open borders, inflationary spending, and a \u201cweak America.\u201d He added that party leaders have shifted left, moving away from \u201cMain Street America,\u201d according to The Hill.<\/p>\n
During President Trump\u2019s second term, Democrats are struggling with low poll numbers and minority status in both chambers of Congress. A mid-July Quinnipiac University poll found just 19% of Americans approve of congressional Democrats\u2019 performance, with 72% disapproving. Among Democrats, approval stood at 39%, with 52% disapproving.<\/p>\n
Whatley, who entered the North Carolina Senate race in late July, said Republicans are \u201cfaring great\u201d due to Trump and GOP lawmakers delivering on promises. He cited economic growth, a secured border, and restored international respect for the U.S. as key achievements. \u201cPresident Trump is delivering on every one of his campaign promises,\u201d Whatley said, noting Republican efforts to pass tax cuts and support the military.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Democrats attempted a social media rebrand with bodybuilding-themed videos ahead of the 2026 midterms. California Congressman Eric Swalwell\u2019s clip bench pressing 135 pounds drew ridicule, with critics mocking his effort and accusing Democrats of hypocrisy over Congress\u2019s August recess and handling of the Epstein files.<\/p>\n
Georgia Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and commentator Matt Walsh were among those who slammed the video, questioning Swalwell\u2019s strength and sincerity. Greene criticized the timing of the video, noting Congress is always out of session in August regardless of party control, while Walsh mocked Swalwell\u2019s bench press effort as weak.<\/p>\n
