A peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine appears to be within reach following a summit between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin at a U.S. Air Force base in Alaska. According to Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy, the emerging deal involves Russia gaining control of parts of eastern Ukraine in exchange for security guarantees for Ukraine from the West.<\/p>\n
The proposed plan would see Russia take full control of the Donbas region \u2014 which includes Donetsk and Luhansk \u2014 while freezing military activity in other contested areas like Kherson and Zaporizhzhia. Trump reportedly supports this arrangement and has encouraged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to consider it, according to a European diplomat cited by Fox News.<\/p>\n
Zelenskyy, however, has historically resisted any land concessions to Russia, calling them unconstitutional. While Russia already controls nearly all of Luhansk and most of Donetsk, Ukraine still holds around 30% of Donetsk and remains reluctant to give it up.
