Trump Allies Question Loyalty of Senate Candidate Andy Barr Over Impeachment Donations<\/strong><\/p>\n

Former President Donald Trump is seeking a loyal ally to replace retiring Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell, but concern is rising within Trump\u2019s inner circle about Rep. Andy Barr (R-Ky.), a front-runner in the race. Despite voting against Trump\u2019s second impeachment in 2021, Barr has faced criticism for financially supporting four House Republicans who voted to impeach the former president.<\/p>\n

Through his leadership PAC, Barr contributed multiple times to lawmakers including Reps. Anthony Gonzalez, John Katko, David Valadao, and Jaime Herrera Beutler\u2014all of whom broke with Trump after the January 6 Capitol riot. A Trump adviser called Barr\u2019s support \u201ca slap in the face,\u201d and others have labeled him a McConnell prot\u00e9g\u00e9 unlikely to stand with Trump in tough moments.<\/p>\n

Barr is competing against former Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron and businessman Nate Morris.
