In an interview with <em>The New York Times<\/em>, Nadler said that President Biden\u2019s withdrawal from the 2024 race influenced his own decision, suggesting that new leadership could offer fresh energy in a challenging political climate.<\/p>\n<p>Nadler, 78, has served in Congress since 1992 and played a pivotal role in both of Donald Trump\u2019s impeachments. Though he did not endorse a successor, his departure clears the way for younger Democrats, including 26-year-old organizer Liam Elkind, who has already launched a primary campaign. Nadler acknowledged that stepping aside was a difficult choice, but said it was \u201cthe right one\u201d for the future of the party.<\/p>\n<p>House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries praised Nadler as \u201ca relentless fighter for justice,\u201d citing his leadership on civil rights and his legislative work as chair of the House Judiciary Committee. Jeffries also noted Nadler\u2019s central role in passing the Respect for Marriage Act and his efforts to hold former President Trump accountable, underscoring his long-standing commitment to democratic values.<\/p>\n<p>Still, Nadler\u2019s final term has been marked by controversy. In June, Department of Homeland Security officers entered his Manhattan office and handcuffed a staffer, accusing employees of \u201charboring rioters.\u201d The incident, captured on video, raised concerns over legal overreach, especially as officers failed to present a warrant when asked.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the upheaval, Nadler stated he will remain active in his community and continue advocating for the progressive causes he has supported throughout his career.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rep.
