A spokesperson confirmed, \u201cCharlie Kirk has been shot\u2026 Condition unknown.\u201d The incident occurred around 12:20 p.m. as Kirk addressed a crowd under a white pop-up tent. Video footage captured the moment, showing a loud pop, followed by panic as attendees shouted, \u201cRun, run, run!\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"538\" data-end=\"884\">Ellen Treanor, a university spokesperson, stated that the gunshot came from a building approximately 200 yards away. \u201cTo the best of our knowledge, the individual was hit and was taken away immediately by his security personnel,\u201d she told Fox News. The campus was placed on lockdown, and authorities later confirmed that a suspect was in custody.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"886\" data-end=\"1198\">Just moments before the shooting, Kirk had been answering a question about transgender mass shooters in America. In video footage, he is heard responding, \u201cToo many,\u201d before being interrupted by gunfire. The timing of the question and the subsequent attack is being reviewed as part of the ongoing investigation.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1200\" data-end=\"1562\">Condemnation and prayers poured in from across the political spectrum. President Trump called the shooting \u201chorrifying\u201d and asked Americans to pray for Kirk. Vice President J.D. Vance and Utah Senator Mike Lee echoed similar sentiments. Democratic governors, including Gavin Newsom, Josh Shapiro, Gretchen Whitmer, and Wes Moore, strongly denounced the violence.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1564\" data-end=\"1836\">\u201cPolitical violence has no place in our country,\u201d Shapiro wrote. Former Vice President Kamala Harris also called for unity and calm, saying the day\u2019s events were \u201cdeeply disturbing.\u201d This is a developing story.
