House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) has strongly criticized the U.S. Supreme Court, accusing it of enabling former President Donald Trump to behave like a monarch. In an interview on CNN\u2019s The Situation Room<\/em>, Jeffries called the Court\u2019s decisions \u201cshameful,\u201d arguing that they have given Trump excessive legal immunity and authority beyond what is appropriate in a democracy.<\/p>\n

Jeffries focused on recent rulings that grant Trump broad presidential immunity, shielding him from legal consequences that would apply to ordinary citizens. He asserted that such decisions undermine the principle of checks and balances and defy the intentions of the Constitution\u2019s framers, who deliberately sought to limit executive power and prevent authoritarian leadership.<\/p>\n

The House Democratic leader also criticized Trump\u2019s influence over the Department of Justice during his presidency. He argued that Trump\u2019s actions weakened the DOJ\u2019s independence and integrity, and he warned that the support of certain conservative Supreme Court justices only amplified the former president\u2019s disregard for legal norms.<\/p>\n

Although Trump continues to face multiple legal challenges, Jeffries maintained that real accountability remains elusive.
