Yet no matter how much he tried, reading and comprehension remained painfully difficult.<\/p>\n<p>It wasn\u2019t until years later\u2014long after his breakout role as \u201cThe Fonz\u201d on\u00a0<em>Happy Days<\/em>\u2014that Winkler finally discovered the truth: he had severe dyslexia. At 31, he received his diagnosis, and for the first time, everything made sense. The problem had never been effort or intelligence\u2014it was an undiagnosed learning difference.<\/p>\n<p>That realization transformed his life. Winkler began using his story to raise awareness and encourage children facing similar struggles. He wanted them to know they weren\u2019t \u201cstupid\u201d or \u201clazy\u201d\u2014they simply learned differently.<\/p>\n<p>In the early 2000s, Winkler co-created the\u00a0<em>Hank Zipzer<\/em>\u00a0children\u2019s book series, inspired by his own experiences growing up with dyslexia.
