The actor, best known as Dr. McSteamy, was expected to join the cast for the show\u2019s 20th anniversary but instead spent the night in the hospital getting stitches.<\/p>\n<p>ALS, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, is a rare and terminal neurodegenerative disease that leads to the gradual loss of motor control. Dane revealed his diagnosis in April 2025, calling it \u201ca nasty disease\u201d in an interview with <em>The Washington Post<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Though disappointed to miss the event, Dane said there was nothing he could do. \u201cIt would have been great to see Jesse and the cast again,\u201d he said, referring to co-star <strong>Jesse Williams<\/strong>, who presented an award on his behalf. Williams praised his friend, telling <em>Entertainment Tonight<\/em>, \u201cHe\u2019s solid. The man\u2019s just solid.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dane admitted he initially hesitated to go public with his diagnosis, fearing speculation. \u201cIt was getting increasingly difficult to hide what was going on,\u201d he said. \u201cBut I\u2019ve never experienced a bigger outpouring of love and support.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Since announcing his condition, Dane has become an advocate for ALS awareness and research. In late September, he met with lawmakers in Washington, D.C., urging renewal of the <strong>ACT for ALS<\/strong>, a law supporting medical research into neurodegenerative diseases.<\/p>\n<p>He has been open about the progression of his illness. \u201cMy left side is functioning, my right side has completely stopped working,\u201d he told Diane Sawyer in June. \u201cIt\u2019s sobering.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite the challenges, Dane remains focused on his work and family. \u201cI\u2019m grateful to have my loving family by my side,\u201d he told <em>People<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>He added that he looks forward to returning to the set of <strong>Euphoria<\/strong> for its highly anticipated third season.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Gray\u2019s Anatomy star Eric Dane missed this year\u2019s Emmys after suffering a fall linked to his ALS diagnosis.
