Authorities are currently securing the area, gathering information, and urging the public to stay clear while they work to understand the situation and ensure everyone\u2019s safety."},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"182\" data-end=\"751\">On <strong data-start=\"185\" data-end=\"207\">September 28, 2025<\/strong>, a mass shooting and arson occurred at a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints meetinghouse in <strong data-start=\"309\" data-end=\"343\">Grand Blanc Township, Michigan<\/strong>.  The perpetrator, identified as <strong data-start=\"414\" data-end=\"438\">Thomas Jacob Sanford<\/strong>, rammed his pickup truck into the building, then exited and opened fire with a rifle during a Sunday service.  As the attack unfolded, the church was set ablaze \u2014 authorities believe Sanford deliberately used gasoline as an accelerant.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"753\" data-end=\"1284\">Police confirmed <strong data-start=\"770\" data-end=\"790\">multiple victims<\/strong>, including at least <strong data-start=\"811\" data-end=\"830\">four fatalities<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"835\" data-end=\"852\">eight wounded<\/strong>. Grand Blanc Township Police Chief William Renye said two people were found dead inside the church, though it was initially unclear how many more might still be unaccounted for.  First responders arrived extremely quickly: one conservation officer from Michigan\u2019s DNR got there within <strong data-start=\"1213\" data-end=\"1227\">30 seconds<\/strong> of the 911 call.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1286\" data-end=\"1590\">Law enforcement engaged with Sanford in the parking lot. Body-camera footage (released by the police) shows officers repeatedly telling him to drop his gun, but he refused.  The suspect was shot and killed in the confrontation.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1592\" data-end=\"1840\">The FBI is leading part of the investigation and treating this as an \u201cact of targeted violence.\u201d \u00a0In the aftermath, they are also assisting with victim support services.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1842\" data-end=\"2085\">The fire consumed much of the church; its walls remain, but large sections were destroyed. The damage complicates rescue efforts and the search for more victims.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2087\" data-end=\"2325\">Officials and community leaders have publicly expressed shock, grief, and condemnation.
