Staffer Pleads Guilty In Fraud Scheme"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"\" data-start=\"60\" data-end=\"254\">A former State Department budget analyst under the Biden administration, Levita Almuete Ferrer, 64, pleaded guilty to embezzling over $650,000 from the agency between March 2022 and April 2024.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"60\" data-end=\"254\">\n<p data-start=\"60\" data-end=\"254\">\n<p data-start=\"60\" data-end=\"254\">\n<p data-start=\"60\" data-end=\"254\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"256\" data-end=\"504\">Ferrer misused her authority to write and deposit 63 checks\u201460 to herself and three to an acquaintance\u2014totaling $657,347.50. She altered QuickBooks entries to disguise the fraud by changing her name to legitimate vendors after printing the checks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"506\" data-end=\"669\">Ferrer, also known as Levita Brezovic, admitted guilt to theft of government property and faces up to 10 years in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for September 18.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"671\" data-end=\"861\">As part of her plea deal, she agreed to repay the stolen funds and is subject to a forfeiture judgment.
