Melissa Hortman and her husband. According to a federal complaint, Boelter visited the homes of at least four public officials early Saturday, killing Hortman and wounding State Senator John Hoffman and his wife. Disguised as a police officer and wearing a silicone mask, Boelter allegedly opened fire on officers before entering the Hortmans\u2019 home. Acting U.S. Attorney Joseph Thompson described the attack as \u201ctruly chilling\u201d and \u201cthe stuff of nightmares.\u201d Boelter faces six federal charges, including murder and stalking, and is also expected to face state charges.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Authorities recovered five firearms, a large amount of ammunition, and a manifesto from Boelter\u2019s abandoned SUV, which had fake police plates. The document listed over 70 public figures as potential targets, including Gov. Tim Walz and Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan. Boelter\u2019s wife reportedly sent a cryptic message to family after the attacks, while Boelter warned her to stay away from their home due to possible armed conflict. Investigators also found \u201cNo Kings\u201d flyers in his vehicle, possibly linking the crime to anti-Trump protests. In response, authorities heightened security for those named in the manifesto and advised the public to avoid related demonstrations.
