Rand Paul (R-KY), who announced Monday that he is referring Fauci to Attorney General Pam Bondi and the Department of Justice after it was revealed Fauci\u2019s pardon was signed via autopen rather than Biden\u2019s direct signature.<\/p>\n<p>This revelation came from a New York Times investigation into Biden\u2019s final weeks in office, which showed that then-White House Chief of Staff Jeff Zients approved last-minute pardons\u2014including for Fauci and members of the January 6 Select Committee, like former Rep. Liz Cheney. Zients emailed, \u201cI approve the use of the autopen for the execution of all of the following pardons,\u201d after presenting a list to Biden.<\/p>\n<p>President Donald Trump has called on Republicans to investigate whether autopen-signed pardons are legally valid. Normally used for routine documents, the autopen\u2019s extensive use in Biden\u2019s final days raised questions amid concerns about the president\u2019s mental fitness.<\/p>\n<p>Republicans see this as a chance to scrutinize Fauci, Cheney, and Biden family members pardoned on the last day. Trump has vowed legal action against Fauci over COVID-19 handling and Cheney for her role on the January 6 Committee.
