He also addressed criticism about the toilet setup, explaining that the facility uses standard, secure systems commonly found in other detention centers. Responding to Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz\u2019s remark that a turkey sandwich looked \u201cgray,\u201d Guthrie pointed out she hadn\u2019t opened the wrapper and questioned how she could judge its appearance from several feet away.<\/p>\n<p>According to Guthrie, the outrage is not truly about facility conditions but about Democrats\u2019 resistance to strict immigration enforcement. \u201cIf you break federal immigration law \u2014 and especially if you commit a violent crime \u2014 you\u2019re not getting a resort stay,\u201d he said. \u201cYou\u2019re getting a cell. It\u2019s not supposed to be comfortable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, five Democratic state lawmakers have filed a lawsuit against Gov. Ron DeSantis and Guthrie, claiming they were unlawfully denied access to the facility. They argue the decision obstructs legislative oversight and reflects executive overreach. DeSantis\u2019s office dismissed the suit as \u201cfrivolous.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite the controversy, the DeSantis administration is promoting the facility as a model for Republican-led states.
