The president\u2019s praise for Hegseth sparked discussions about reviving the old cabinet title, which was replaced in 1947 by the Secretary of Defense.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"501\" data-end=\"920\">Trump first floated the idea of the title change during the NATO summit, where he reflected on historical uses of \u201cSecretary of War.\u201d He referenced President Harry Truman, who was the last to appoint someone under that title\u2014Kenneth Royall.
