A new CNN poll reveals that while a majority of Americans are open to the idea of a third political party, they aren\u2019t interested in one led by Elon Musk. According to the survey, 63% of U.S. adults support the creation of a new party to challenge the dominance of Democrats and Republicans. However, only 25% said they would support a party under Musk\u2019s leadership, with a striking 74% opposed.<\/p>\n
Earlier this month, Musk announced the formation of the \u201cAmerica Party\u201d on X, formerly known as Twitter. His announcement came after sharply criticizing President Trump\u2019s recently signed \u201cOne Big Beautiful Bill,\u201d which Musk labeled as wasteful and corrupt. A former Trump ally, Musk claimed the country no longer operates as a democracy but as a \u201cone-party system,\u201d saying his new party aims to restore freedom to Americans.<\/p>\n
CNN data analyst Harry Enten reacted to the poll results by declaring Musk\u2019s political initiative \u201cclose to dead on arrival.\u201d The survey also highlighted a significant dip in Musk\u2019s popularity. Only 23% of respondents view him favorably, while 60% hold an unfavorable opinion. The poll was conducted from July 10 to 13 with a representative sample of 1,057 adults and carries a margin of error of \u00b13.5%.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Musk\u2019s Tesla Cybertruck is experiencing a sharp decline in performance. Sales fell 51% in Q2 year-over-year, with only 4,300 units sold. Despite having taken over 2 million pre-orders, Tesla has delivered just 10,700 Cybertrucks so far in 2025, well below projections.<\/p>\n
Adding to Tesla\u2019s challenges, the Cybertruck\u2019s starting price has ballooned to \\$80,000\u2014significantly higher than the \\$50,000 price tag promised in 2019. The company has not publicly addressed the disappointing sales numbers, as competitors like Ford and GMC continue to surpass Tesla in electric truck sales.<\/p>\n
