Another legendary voice has been silenced. Lou Christie, the chart-topping teen idol best known for his 1966 hit \u201cLightnin\u2019 Strikes,\u201d died on June 17 at the age of 82.<\/p>\n

Born Lugee Alfredo Giovanni Sacco in Glenwillard, Pennsylvania, Christie found his voice early, singing in church choirs. He fondly recalled his first solo in first grade\u2014\u201cAway in a Manger\u201d\u2014as the moment that sparked his love of performing.<\/p>\n

Without a major label backing him, Christie began recording in a small hometown studio. He later adopted the stage name Lou Christie and launched a career that would take him to the top of the charts.<\/p>\n

He first rose to fame in 1963 with \u201cThe Gypsy Cried\u201d and \u201cTwo Faces Have I.\u201d But it was \u201cLightnin\u2019 Strikes,\u201d co-written with longtime collaborator Twyla Herbert, that became his signature hit. The song soared to number one on his 23rd birthday.<\/p>\n
