Zelenskyy’s Wardrobe Sparks Headlines Again – and a Comeback
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s attire drew attention once more during his visit to the White House for high-stakes peace talks with U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday. Known for his signature wartime military-style clothing, Zelenskyy appeared in a slightly updated look — a black blazer paired with a military-inspired shirt and canvas trousers, designed to strike a balance between civilian and military symbolism.
Trump welcomed Zelenskyy with a lighthearted comment: “He is all dressed up today,” referencing the Ukrainian leader’s typical choice to avoid formal wear as a sign of solidarity with his war-torn country. The outfit, created by Ukrainian designer Viktor Anisimov, reflected a subtle shift in tone. Anisimov confirmed that discussions about updating Zelenskyy’s wardrobe had begun in January, emphasizing the president’s desire to remain authentic while evolving his image.
“It’s not about the suit – it’s about what happens to Ukraine,” Anisimov told Womenswear Daily, stressing that clothing decisions were secondary to the country’s fate.
Still, the wardrobe change didn’t go unnoticed — especially by conservative reporter Brian Glenn, who had previously criticized Zelenskyy in February for not wearing a suit during his visit to Washington. This time, Glenn complimented the outfit, prompting a quick-witted response from Zelenskyy: “I remember. But you are in the same suit. I’m changed and you’re not.”
The remark drew laughter in the press room. Trump joined in the teasing, pointing out Glenn as the same reporter who had previously challenged Zelenskyy. Glenn offered an apology, and the press conference moved forward on a lighter note.
Ultimately, the wardrobe conversation provided a human moment amid tense global discussions — and highlighted Zelenskyy’s ability to disarm criticism with humor and resolve.
