Fox News anchor Bret Baier was recently pulled over in Washington, D.C.’s Georgetown neighborhood for using his phone while driving. The incident was captured on video by a local real estate firm and later confirmed by Baier on social media. He acknowledged picking up his ringing phone while driving his wife’s Mercedes-Benz, complied with the officer, and received a ticket. Baier added humorously that he didn’t expect paparazzi to be present during the incident.
The traffic stop took place shortly after Baier traveled with former President Donald Trump on Air Force One to Alaska. During the trip, Baier interviewed Trump and later golfed with him in Virginia. The ticket came amid Trump’s strong push for law and order in the capital, a campaign that had intensified following a series of violent crimes.
Trump responded to the spike in crime by deploying federal law enforcement and federalizing the D.C. police. On August 11, he activated the D.C. National Guard for 30 days. Since then, hundreds of arrests have been made, including suspected gang members. Attorney General Pam Bondi confirmed the crackdown was producing results.
According to the D.C. Police Union, overall crime has dropped by 8 percent since Trump’s order took effect. Notably, carjackings are down by 83 percent and robberies by 46 percent. Trump has hinted at extending federal oversight of D.C. police beyond the initial 30 days.
In parallel, Trump’s “Making D.C. Safe and Beautiful Task Force” has made significant reforms to the city’s firearm registration process. Permitting times for concealed carry and registration have been drastically reduced from months to just days.
Despite the accelerated process, D.C. continues to enforce strict gun laws, including bans on semi-automatic rifles and limitations on where firearms can be carried, ensuring public safety remains a priority.
