CelebrityJudge Frank Caprio Dies At 88

Beloved American judge Frank Caprio, often referred to as “America’s Nicest Judge,” has passed away at the age of 88 following a battle with pancreatic illness. His family announced that he died peacefully and will be fondly remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many.

Caprio rose to worldwide fame through the popular TV show Caught in Providence, where his compassionate and empathetic handling of minor traffic cases captured the hearts of millions. The show frequently featured clips of Caprio offering understanding and lenient rulings, often going viral online.

His unique approach to justice earned him widespread admiration and even a Daytime Emmy nomination in 2021. Rather than focusing solely on the law, Caprio prioritized the human stories behind each case, giving those who appeared before him a sense of dignity and respect.

Caprio’s legal career began in 1965 when he was first called to the bar. He served as a judge in Providence, Rhode Island, from 1985 until his retirement in 2023. Over the years, he became a symbol of fairness and compassion in the American justice system.

Just hours before his passing, Caprio shared a heartfelt message from his hospital bed, expressing gratitude to his many supporters and asking for continued prayers. His humility and grace, even in his final moments, reflected the character he was celebrated for throughout his life.

Frank Caprio is survived by his wife, Joyce, five children, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. His legacy lives on not only through his family and career, but also through his book Compassion in the Court, which offers insight into the values that guided his judicial work.
