The FBI gave a sobering update regarding the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was killed during an event at Utah Valley University. The suspect, believed to be a college-aged individual, is still at large. Authorities recovered the suspected weapon—a high-powered, bolt-action rifle. Surveillance footage tracked the shooter moving through the campus, up a stairwell, and onto a roof, from which the fatal shot was likely fired.
After the shooting, the suspect reportedly jumped off the building and fled into a nearby neighborhood. Law enforcement agencies, including local and state police, are working with the FBI to track down the individual. The FBI also appealed to the public for any video, images, or information that could help identify the suspect. FBI Director Kash Patel affirmed the agency’s commitment to justice in this case.
Utah officials, including Public Safety Commissioner Beau Mason, labeled the shooting a “targeted attack.” CCTV footage captured a person in all-black clothing near the scene. The shooter is believed to have fired from a rooftop, targeting Kirk while he was at a public gathering in the university’s student courtyard.
Charlie Kirk, 31, was a close ally of former President Donald Trump and a prominent figure in conservative youth politics. He founded Turning Point USA at age 18 and played a key role in mobilizing young conservative voters in recent elections. Kirk died after being shot once during the outdoor event and later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
