Nearly a week after the shocking assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, the event continues to dominate headlines. Kirk was fatally shot on September 10 while giving a speech at Utah Valley University, with thousands in attendance. The horrifying moment was captured on multiple phones and quickly spread across social media, triggering widespread outrage and speculation.
Despite the public nature of the event, it took over 30 hours for police to apprehend the suspect, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson. Authorities relied on witness accounts and surveillance footage, ultimately tracking Robinson after a report of someone fleeing a rooftop on the university’s campus. His capture brought relief, but many questions remain unanswered.
People have questioned how Kirk, a prominent figure with many political enemies, was left so vulnerable. Theories about the number of people involved and the planning behind the attack flooded online platforms. However, Utah Governor Spencer Cox confirmed that Robinson has been uncooperative, slowing the investigation’s progress.
One of the key breakthroughs came when police discovered a bolt-action rifle and ammunition near the scene. Strangely, several bullet casings had bizarre, meme-like messages written on them, including “hey fascist,” and references to obscure internet culture, like “if you read this you are gay lmao” and “Notices bulge OwO what’s this?”
This last phrase, particularly confusing to the public, was traced back to a 2015 internet meme parodying the furry community and online roleplay culture. The phrase stems from a comic where characters engage in exaggerated, affectionate online chat, often in a fantasy or anthropomorphic context.
Governor Cox commented on Robinson’s apparent involvement in dark corners of internet culture, referencing online gaming and Reddit communities. These insights suggest the suspect may have been influenced by niche internet subcultures, adding further complexity to an already disturbing and high-profile case.
