Jordan Brann, a former classmate of Tyler Robinson at Pine View High School in St. George, Utah, posted a TikTok discussing his past encounters with the suspect in the Charlie Kirk shooting. Though the video has since been removed, Brann described Robinson as someone deeply immersed in internet culture, comparing him to the kind of student who spent excessive time on Reddit. He clarified in a follow-up post that he was not friends with Robinson but observed him frequently over several years.
Brann’s video quickly went viral, reaching over two million views in just three days. His commentary sparked broader discussions about how extended exposure to online content can shape extreme beliefs or behaviors. Brann expressed concern about the dangers of online radicalization, especially among youth who may adopt extreme views to gain social approval in digital communities.
Other students who knew Robinson recalled him as quiet and academically capable. He participated in the school band and auto mechanics club, earned a scholarship to Utah State University, and later enrolled in Dixie Technical College, where he was studying in an electrical apprenticeship program.
Investigators later revealed disturbing evidence: some of the ammunition used in the attack bore engravings referencing internet culture and political symbols. These included internet memes, slogans, and cryptic messages that appeared to mock or reference certain subcultures. The engravings are being examined as potential indicators of the suspect’s ideological influences.
Charlie Kirk, the 31-year-old founder of Turning Point USA, was fatally shot while speaking at Utah Valley University on September 10. Despite quick medical response, he died from his injuries. Surveillance footage helped identify the suspect, who was arrested roughly 34 hours later near his home after being urged to surrender by his father.
Authorities have charged Robinson with multiple serious offenses, including aggravated murder. Utah Governor Spencer Cox confirmed the arrest and called the case deeply troubling.
