An armed man was detained at Arizona’s State Farm Stadium ahead of Charlie Kirk’s upcoming memorial service, according to the U.S. Secret Service. The man was reportedly impersonating law enforcement and was arrested after showing suspicious behavior. Authorities say he was carrying a firearm and a knife and presented false law enforcement credentials.
The individual claimed to be a private security guard, but investigators have found no evidence supporting this. The Secret Service confirmed he was not affiliated with any official security detail and remains in custody. A joint investigation is ongoing to determine his motives and presence at the venue.
The memorial service has been classified as a Special Event Assessment Rating (SEAR) Level 1 event by the Department of Homeland Security. This designation is reserved for high-security occasions such as the Super Bowl and Boston Marathon and allows federal agencies to deploy full security resources in collaboration with local officials.
The event is expected to draw major political figures, including former President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and other senior officials. The Secret Service is coordinating with law enforcement across all levels. William Mack, head of the Phoenix Secret Service field office, emphasized the agency’s commitment to ensuring a safe environment for the service.
Glendale Police anticipate massive turnout, with estimates of over 100,000 mourners. Some attendees may arrive as early as 2 a.m. on Sunday. Parking opens at 7 a.m., and overnight camping is not permitted. Extensive security measures will be in place, including aircraft, drones, and undercover officers.
