A shooting occurred at an ICE detention facility in Dallas, Texas. The incident resulted in multiple injuries and fatalities, though the gunfire did not injure any ICE officers. An ICE spokesperson confirmed that three individuals were shot, and later, Dallas police announced that two individuals, including the shooter, had passed away due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The shooter reportedly fired multiple rounds from an elevated position into the facility’s sally port.
Federal authorities described the incident as “targeted violence.” Special Agent in Charge of the Dallas FBI Joe Rothrock noted that a round discovered near the deceased shooter contained messages that were “anti-ICE in nature.” FBI Director Kash Patel later shared a photo on X showing at least five shell casings, one of which had “ANTI-ICE” written on it in blue ink. This evidence pointed toward the attack being motivated by hatred for the agency.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer immediately commented on the event during an interview, using the shooting to criticize President Donald Trump. Schumer claimed that Trump’s rhetoric was contributing to such politically motivated attacks. He stated that responsibility “has to come from the top,” and that Trump was “totally deficient” in addressing the issue, noting how Trump’s response to an earlier incident was to place blame rather than unite Americans.

Despite conceding he did not know the specific weapon used, Schumer immediately pivoted to demanding “better laws on guns.” Citing his past authorship of the Brady Law and the assault weapons ban, he lamented that such violent incidents are “almost every day” occurrences. Schumer argued that more action is necessary regarding “gun trafficking, about who sells the guns, how they get the guns,” asserting that effective measures could be implemented without “impinging on the rights of law-abiding citizens.”
Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem strongly condemned the attack, stating, “This vile attack was motivated by hatred for ICE.” She asserted that the shooting “must serve as a wake-up call to the far-left that their rhetoric about ICE has consequences.” Noem confirmed “multiple fatalities” and stressed that ICE law enforcement is “facing unprecedented violence against them,” urging that it must stop.
Vice President JD Vance echoed this sentiment, writing on X that the “obsessive attack on law enforcement, particularly ICE, must stop.” Meanwhile, Schumer stated that he did not yet know all the details but condemned the violence as “just terrible,” emphasizing that “Everybody, right, left, center, I don’t care what your politics are, has to speak out strongly against it.”
