Howard Rubin, a retired New York City financier and former associate of billionaire George Soros, has been indicted on serious federal charges. According to the Justice Department, Rubin and his assistant, Jennifer Powers, are accused of trafficking and transporting women across state lines under false pretenses, leading to abusive and non-consensual encounters.
Rubin allegedly operated from a Manhattan penthouse, which authorities describe as a private location used for illicit activities. Powers is also facing a bank fraud charge related to financing her Texas home, allegedly involving misrepresentations to a financial institution. The case has drawn public attention due to Rubin’s former high-profile status and his connection to Soros Fund Management.
A civil trial involving six women is expected later this year, with the plaintiffs seeking $18 million in damages. Prosecutors allege that Rubin paid women for participation in encounters that were misrepresented and later became abusive. The women involved claim the situations escalated beyond anything they agreed to, causing both physical harm and emotional trauma.
Testimonies from some of the victims indicate lasting injuries and psychological distress. Authorities argue that Rubin used his wealth and reputation to manipulate women, while Powers allegedly helped organize and manage the operations. Court documents suggest that this conduct took place over an extended period and involved significant financial resources.
Federal officials, including prosecutors and law enforcement, have condemned the actions described in the indictment. They emphasized that no one is above the law, regardless of their social or financial standing. The Justice Department stressed the seriousness of human trafficking and abuse, particularly when carried out through deception and coercion.
The investigation remains ongoing, with both Rubin and Powers now facing federal prosecution. Law enforcement agencies have pledged continued efforts to pursue justice in this and similar cases, ensuring accountability for those involved in trafficking and abuse.
