FBI Director Kash Patel revealed Monday that federal investigators are expanding their probe into a private online group linked to Tyler Robinson, the 28-year-old suspect in the fatal shooting of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk. Robinson, who was arrested last week following the incident at Utah Valley University, has reportedly confessed and is awaiting formal charges.
Speaking on Fox News, Patel stated that the FBI is leading the investigation into a Discord chat group associated with Robinson. More than 20 individuals connected to the group are expected to be questioned. Authorities have seized numerous electronic devices from Robinson’s home, including computers, phones, and gaming systems, to examine digital communications.
Among the evidence uncovered was a text message allegedly sent by Robinson, in which he referenced targeting Charlie Kirk. Patel shared that the suspect expressed a strong, personal motive, reportedly stating, “some hatred cannot be negotiated with,” when questioned about the reasoning behind the attack.
The existence of the Discord group introduces a broader dimension to the investigation. While authorities have not confirmed whether any group members encouraged the act, all individuals involved in the chats will be interviewed. Experts note that Discord has been used in past cases involving extremist behavior, prompting investigators to closely examine chat logs, user data, and financial ties.
Attorney General Bondi confirmed that state prosecutors in Utah are moving quickly, with charges of first-degree murder expected imminently. She also noted that federal prosecutors are evaluating the possibility of additional charges, working in coordination with state officials to pursue the case to the fullest extent of the law.
Charlie Kirk, 31, was shot during a campus speech and later died of his injuries. His death has drawn national attention and reignited conversations about political violence and the influence of online communities on real-world actions.
