Emily Gold, a 17‑year-old dancer and cheerleader from Los Osos High School, passed away on September 13, 2024. Her death was ruled a suicide by the San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office. According to California Highway Patrol reports, she was found on the eastbound 210 Freeway and was struck by a vehicle; she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Gold gained national attention when she performed on America’s Got Talent (AGT) as part of her high school’s dance team during Season 19. During their quarterfinals performance, her team earned praise from the judges, including a standing ovation from Simon Cowell.
Following the news of her death, AGT producers released a heartfelt tribute, describing her as a “bright young soul” who will be deeply missed. Her Los Osos High School dance team also paid tribute, calling her a leader, role model, friend, and sister.
Her school district responded with grief — the Chaffey Joint Union High School District said it was “heartbroken” and arranged on-site grief counseling for students. Her family has also received support via a GoFundMe campaign set up to help with funeral and related expenses.
Gold’s tragic death has sparked broader conversations about teen mental health and suicide. Many in the dance community and among her peers have expressed sorrow over losing someone so young and full of promise.
