Trump Tells Canada: Pay $61B or Become 51st State
Donald Trump unveiled his $175B “Golden Dome” missile defense plan and claimed Canada is eager to join. On Truth Social, he said Canada must pay $61 billion to participate—unless it agrees to become the 51st U.S. state, in which case participation would be free.
The offer was widely criticized. Prime Minister Mark Carney responded firmly: “Canada is not for sale—ever.” During a royal visit, King Charles III reaffirmed Canada’s sovereignty and commitment to democratic values.
Critics, including China, accuse Trump of escalating global militarization. Canada insists it will only join on equal terms—without sacrificing independence.
