The bodies of three men have been recovered from a mudslide near Lillooet, B.C., with one man still missing, according to the RCMP. The first body was retrieved on Wednesday, followed by the discovery of two more on Thursday, as confirmed by B.C. Chief Coroner Lisa Lapointe in a statement released Saturday. Despite continued efforts on Friday, search teams were unable to locate the fourth missing individual.
Earlier in the week, on Monday, the body of a woman was also found at the site, marking the first confirmed fatality from the recent landslides and flooding in southern British Columbia. The natural disasters have been linked to the extreme rainfall that swept through the region last weekend, causing widespread destruction and prompting emergency responses across the province.
