House GOP Pushes AG Pam Bondi On Fauci, Others

House conservatives are intensifying pressure on Attorney General Pam Bondi to take aggressive legal action against individuals they claim targeted former President Donald Trump before the 2024 election. Among their top demands are criminal investigations into Dr. Anthony Fauci and New York Attorney General Letitia James, whom they accuse of politically motivated actions. Some Republicans are also pushing for charges against Democratic mayors who have protected unauthorized immigrants and are calling out Biden-era officials for allegedly misusing taxpayer funds on diversity, climate, and other progressive initiatives. Additionally, Bondi has faced criticism for delaying the release of materials related to Jeffrey Epstein.

Central to these demands is Senator Rand Paul’s ongoing campaign to hold Dr. Fauci accountable for allegedly lying to Congress about U.S. funding of gain-of-function research in Wuhan, China. Paul cites newly released emails from early 2020 in which Fauci acknowledged scientists in Wuhan were conducting such research. Although the emails don’t definitively prove Fauci’s guilt, they appear to contradict his sworn testimony denying NIH involvement. The Government Accountability Office recently confirmed that NIH funding did reach the Wuhan Institute of Virology. Paul has now referred Fauci to the Department of Justice for prosecution, arguing his alleged deception contributed to public health mismanagement during the pandemic. This comes amid a renewed effort by the Trump administration to investigate the origins of COVID-19, with a recent executive order banning U.S. funding for gain-of-function research, fulfilling a long-standing Trump promise.
