During coverage of the Los Angeles protests, CNN senior investigative reporter Kyung Lah was confronted by police. As the LAPD moved in to disperse the crowd, Lah and her crew were asked to move behind police lines. Lah attempted to identify herself as press, saying repeatedly that her crew was with CNN and had verification. Despite this, tensions rose when a police officer denied her colleague passage and confronted Lah as she tried to move. An officer accused Lah of grabbing him, to which she forcefully denied touching him. The encounter ended with officers instructing the CNN team to relocate, prompting Lah to describe the situation on-air as “a little chaotic” to CNN host Jake Tapper.
Meanwhile, CNN data analyst Harry Enten discussed the political implications of the immigration protests. He revealed a surprising trend: immigrant voters have increasingly shifted to the right on immigration policy, showing growing support for stricter enforcement and even favoring Donald Trump’s approach. In 2024 and 2025, Trump gained significant ground among immigrant citizens, with his support rising from 36% in 2016 to 47% in some 2024 polls. Enten emphasized that immigrant voters have become more critical of illegal immigration and more aligned with Republican policies. This demographic shift has contributed to Trump’s confidence on the issue, as immigrant citizens now appear more favorable to Republican views than expected, signaling a notable political realignment.
