An Air India flight, AI 171, tragically crashed on June 12, shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad Airport, just minutes into its journey to London Gatwick. The plane reached only 625 feet in altitude before plummeting four miles from the airport. There were 242 passengers and crew members aboard, including 169 Indian nationals, 53 British nationals, and a few others from Canada and Portugal. Emergency services rushed to the scene, and despite recovery efforts, 265 bodies have been found, including those of people on the ground. The lone survivor is 40-year-old British national Vishwash Kumar Ramesh. The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing, with more details expected soon.

In the aftermath of the incident, Air India’s Chairman, Natarajan Chandrasekaran, expressed his condolences, describing the event as a “tragic accident.” According to aviation authorities, the aircraft sent out a mayday call, with the captain reporting: “Mayday… no thrust, losing power, unable to lift.” It’s believed the pilots attempted to regain control before the crash. The airline has activated emergency support teams to assist the families of the victims, with further updates expected as more information becomes available.
