An Air India flight bound for London Gatwick tragically crashed just minutes after taking off from Ahmedabad Airport on June 12, killing at least 265 people. The aircraft, carrying 242 passengers—primarily Indian and British nationals—reached only 625 feet in altitude before going down approximately four miles from the runway. It reportedly struck a medical college dormitory on impact. Among the wreckage, only one survivor has been confirmed: 40-year-old British citizen Vishwash Kumar Ramesh.
The flight crew, Captain Sumeet Sabharwal and First Officer Clive Kunder, issued a desperate mayday call moments before the crash, citing engine failure and loss of thrust: “Mayday… no thrust, losing power, unable to lift.” Air India has described the crash as a “tragic accident” and is actively supporting rescue efforts and assisting the victims’ families. The exact cause of the disaster remains under investigation.
