Musk Hatches Plan To Start New Political Party After Trump Signs BBB

Elon Musk is once again hinting at launching a new political party in the U.S. after publicly splitting from former President Donald Trump over the administration’s budget bill. Musk, who previously headed the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) under Trump, resigned in May and criticized the bill as fiscally irresponsible, warning that it would contribute significantly to the national debt.

Taking his concerns further, Musk posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Independence Day, floating the idea of creating the “America Party.” He suggested the party could focus strategically on a few Senate and House races to gain enough power to influence key legislation. “Should we create the America Party?” he asked in an online poll, emphasizing his desire to break the grip of the two-party system and represent the “80% in the middle.”

The idea isn’t new for Musk, who first proposed forming a centrist party in June. He argued that most Americans aren’t represented by current political extremes and that it’s time for a fresh, pragmatic political movement. His call for independence resonated with some but also drew swift criticism from inside the White House.

Stephen Miller, Trump’s Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy, defended the budget, calling opposition to it equivalent to supporting waste and higher taxes. He highlighted benefits like tax relief on tips and overtime, claiming the bill would help the middle class.

House Speaker Mike Johnson also praised the legislation as “the most conservative” in history, emphasizing savings of $1.6 trillion and efforts to make government smaller and more efficient.
