A tragedy on the farm: What happened to Mike Biadasz

In 2016, Michael Biadasz, a passionate young farmer in Amherst, Wisconsin, tragically lost his life while performing a routine task on his family farm. On August 15, Mike was preparing a manure pit when an unusual weather pattern trapped deadly gases like methane or hydrogen sulfide in the air, overwhelming him. By the time farm workers arrived, Mike had passed, along with 16 of his cows.

The rare weather phenomenon, which created a toxic dome over the area, caused the lethal buildup of gases. Mike’s death devastated his family, friends, and the community, leading them to establish the Mike Biadasz Farm Safety and Education Memorial Fund. This initiative raises awareness about manure gas exposure and promotes farm safety education to prevent future tragedies.
