Attorney General Pam Bondi dismissed Maurene Comey, a senior prosecutor known for handling cases against Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, Politico reported. Maurene Comey, daughter of former FBI Director James Comey, was let go without a clear explanation and has not responded to requests for comment. She had served nearly a decade in the U.S. attorney’s office.
The dismissal coincides with heightened scrutiny surrounding James Comey, who recently posted a cryptic image online that some interpreted as threatening toward President Trump. The Secret Service investigated but James Comey denied any malicious intent.
Bondi reaffirmed her commitment to remain in office as long as President Trump wishes, despite criticism over the Justice Department’s handling of the Epstein case. She emphasized ongoing efforts to combat violent crime and drug trafficking.
Alan Dershowitz, Epstein’s former lawyer, disputed claims that there exists a “client list” of individuals connected to Epstein’s crimes. He stated that court orders have sealed much information to protect alleged victims. Dershowitz maintained that Bondi, Trump, and the DOJ are not withholding additional information, attributing secrecy to judicial rulings rather than the administration.
