In a disturbing incident in Texas, the FBI’s Dallas Field Office has announced the arrest of Benjamin Hanil Song, a former Marine Corps reservist, for his alleged involvement in an armed assault on ICE agents and police officers outside the Prairieland Detention Center. The attack, which occurred on the night of July 4, involved multiple individuals who opened fire on federal and local law enforcement personnel.
According to the FBI, Song is the twelfth suspect arrested in connection with the coordinated attack. Authorities revealed that one Alvarado police officer was injured during the incident, which targeted both ICE agents and other officers present at the detention facility. The criminal complaint filed against Song outlines his role in the group assault.
The FBI detailed the attackers’ preparation and appearance, stating the group wore black, military-style clothing and began the assault by launching fireworks at the facility. The group also vandalized property, including vehicles and a guard structure in the parking lot, before escalating to gunfire.
Law enforcement responded quickly when correctional officers called 911. One responding officer was shot in the neck by an assailant hidden in nearby woods, while others were fired upon by a suspect across the street. Multiple weapons, including AR-15 rifles and a pistol, were recovered, linking Song to the arsenal used during the attack.
Song now faces serious federal charges, including three counts of attempted murder of federal agents and discharging firearms in relation to a crime of violence. Officials praised the rapid law enforcement response, which led to the arrest of most suspects shortly after the attack.
