House Republicans are calling for arrests following new revelations suggesting that former President Barack Obama and his administration may have attempted to fabricate intelligence to promote a narrative of Russian interference in the 2016 election. According to a declassified memo released by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, intelligence officials informed President Obama in 2016 that Russian efforts had failed to impact election infrastructure or results.
On Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures,” Rep. Anna Paulina Luna stated that crimes such as lying under oath and falsifying intelligence reports could violate federal law, specifically 18 U.S. Code 1001. She and Rep. Byron Donalds emphasized the need for criminal prosecutions, asserting that these alleged actions were not political but unlawful. Donalds stressed the threat posed to the republic itself if such misconduct goes unpunished.
Gabbard, who has vowed to release additional documents, said the Obama administration’s actions amounted to a “treasonous conspiracy” designed to delegitimize Trump’s presidency. She criticized former special counsels Robert Mueller and John Durham for missing or ignoring this evidence during their investigations, implying a possible cover-up.
Gabbard’s team uncovered a 2016 intelligence assessment stating that foreign adversaries lacked the capabilities to carry out widespread cyberattacks on U.S. election systems. This contradicts the justification for the Crossfire Hurricane investigation, which was launched to explore alleged ties between Trump and Russia.
The disclosure bolsters Trump’s longstanding claim that the Russia-collusion narrative was a political operation. It also raises serious legal and ethical questions about actions taken by top officials in the Obama administration and intelligence community.
