President Donald Trump abruptly ended a phone call with CNN reporter Andrew Kaczynski after being questioned about newly resurfaced photos of Jeffrey Epstein attending Trump’s 1993 wedding to Marla Maples. The call lasted only about 30 seconds, ending with Trump calling CNN “fake news” before hanging up.
The images, published by CNN’s KFile, show Epstein interacting with Trump and his children at the wedding and at a Harley-Davidson Cafe event that same year. Although the photos have existed online through sources like Google Images and Shutterstock, CNN presented them as part of an exclusive archive investigation, noting that they predate Epstein’s known legal troubles.
Kaczynski acknowledged that while the images were not new, they hadn’t been widely reported and were now contextually relevant given public interest in Epstein’s associations. Speaking to CNN’s Erin Burnett, he described the president’s curt response and rapid end to the call.
In response, White House Communications Director Steven Cheung dismissed the photos as “out-of-context frame grabs” from public events, arguing they were being twisted to suggest something inappropriate. He reiterated that Trump banned Epstein from Mar-a-Lago for inappropriate behavior.
Conservative commentator Eric Daugherty criticized CNN for framing the images as a bombshell, arguing the content was old and well known, accusing the network of pushing a narrative against Trump.
Separately, Alan Dershowitz mentioned names of former high-profile Democrats allegedly connected to Epstein in old FBI interviews. While none are proven guilty, Dershowitz emphasized the need to distinguish between accusations and verified facts.
