Texas AG Ken Paxton Investigates Texas Majority PAC for Alleged Misconduct
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has launched a formal investigation into Texas Majority PAC (TMP), a political group partially funded by billionaire George Soros. Paxton alleges the PAC engaged in illegal coordination, bribery, and financial misconduct by supporting Democratic lawmakers who fled Texas to block a legislative vote. “This investigation is about protecting the integrity of our legislature,” said Paxton. “If lawmakers are acting on payouts instead of voter interests, Texans deserve to know.”
Paxton’s office claims TMP used donor funds to facilitate the mass departure of House Democrats, denying quorum and halting legislative activity. He also raised concerns about foreign influence, noting TMP’s Soros ties. A formal Request to Examine has been issued to investigate the PAC’s activities and potential violations of state law.
The probe follows Paxton’s previous investigation into another Democrat-aligned group, Powered by People. He alleges both organizations are part of a broader network of “radical, out-of-state groups” interfering with Texas governance and attempting to influence legislative outcomes through unlawful means.
The controversy began August 4, when dozens of Democratic lawmakers fled the state to prevent a quorum during a special legislative session. In response, Texas House Speaker Dustin Burrows issued arrest warrants under state constitutional provisions and House rules. The House has since enlisted Paxton’s help to enforce these warrants across state lines.
Additionally, Paxton is pursuing legal action in the Texas Supreme Court via a quo warranto petition. The petition argues that lawmakers who fail to return by a specified deadline may be removed from office. “If TMP or any PAC coordinated with officials to abandon their duties, that’s not activism—that’s a crime,” Paxton concluded.
