Elon Musk is reportedly backing away from launching a new political party, instead shifting his focus toward supporting Vice President JD Vance as a potential successor to Donald Trump and the MAGA movement. According to the Wall Street Journal, Musk’s idea of an “America Party,” floated in early July after receiving online support, has lost steam due to lack of serious backing and poor polling data.
CNN polling analyst Harry Enten called the party “dead on arrival,” citing a 55-point drop in Musk’s approval rating in just four months. Furthermore, the Journal noted Musk has not attracted any major political allies to help launch the party or bring credibility to the movement.
Now, Musk is reportedly considering using his financial influence to support Vance if he runs for president in 2028. Sources say Musk has told associates that creating a new party could damage his relationship with the vice president — a connection he appears increasingly committed to maintaining.
Musk’s return to Republican circles became more evident this month. He donated $5 million to each of the major GOP House and Senate super PACs, making him their largest individual donor in the first half of 2025. He also gave another $5 million to Donald Trump’s super PAC, MAGA Inc., further signaling his shift back toward established conservative politics.
Additionally, Musk contributed over $45 million to his own America PAC during the same period, funding voter outreach efforts, ads, and petitions. While full details of his contributions remain unclear, records confirm he spent over $300 million supporting Trump and Republicans in 2024, leaving questions about whether his political ambitions will stay behind the scenes or take new shape in the future.
