Vice President JD Vance emphasized President Donald Trump’s strong health in a recent interview with USA Today, while also affirming his readiness to assume leadership if necessary. Addressing concerns about Trump’s age—he turned 79 in June—Vance reassured the public, saying, “The president is in incredibly good health. He’s got incredible energy. He’s the last person making phone calls at night, and the first in the morning.”
When asked if he was prepared to step into the presidency, Vance responded with confidence. “Yes, terrible tragedies can happen. But I feel very confident the president is in good shape, will serve out the remainder of his term, and do great things for the American people,” he said. He added that his experience over the last 200 days has provided valuable on-the-job training.
A memo released last month by Trump’s physician, Dr. Sean Barbabella, addressed public concerns about swelling in Trump’s legs and noticeable bruising on his hand. According to the memo, Trump suffers from chronic venous insufficiency—a common and generally benign condition in people over 70. The bruising was attributed to soft tissue irritation from frequent handshaking and the routine use of aspirin.
Meanwhile, House Speaker Mike Johnson voiced enthusiastic support for Trump’s proposal to hold a Republican National Convention before the 2026 midterm elections. Johnson believes the event would energize the party and spotlight its accomplishments since 2024.
Trump introduced the idea on his Truth Social platform, saying the GOP is “doing really well” and hinting that a pre-midterm convention would be unprecedented. “Stay tuned,” he wrote. Johnson echoed the enthusiasm, posting on X, “YES, Mr. President! Let’s go!!!!”
