Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) spent part of her August recess at Italy’s luxurious Villa d’Este on Lake Como, where nightly rates can exceed \$3,000, according to the hotel’s website. Pelosi, whose net worth is estimated at \$260 million, has faced ongoing scrutiny over stock trades made by her husband, venture capitalist Paul Pelosi.
Video obtained by the Washington Free Beacon shows Pelosi, handbag in hand, walking past a gangway while other travelers enjoyed the summer sun. She stayed at Villa d’Este from August 25 to August 28, the outlet reported.
Built in 1567 as a residence for the Cardinal of Como, the Villa d’Este was converted into a hotel in 1873 after passing through several wealthy families. The Times of London described it in May 2024 as a “gold-drenched wonder of a luxury hotel, obscenely opulent at every turn.”
At 85, Pelosi has held various leadership roles among House Democrats since 2007, including eight years as Speaker. After Democrats lost the House in 2022, she assumed the new title “Speaker Emerita.” Pelosi has served in Congress since 1987 and plans to run again in 2026, despite facing a primary challenge from Saikat Chakrabarti, a tech entrepreneur and former chief of staff to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, whose financial disclosures suggest he may be wealthier than Pelosi.
Pelosi was not the only Democrat vacationing at Lake Como this summer; Maryland Governor Wes Moore, a possible 2028 presidential contender, was seen aboard George Clooney’s yacht with his wife.
