The Justice Department’s Weaponization Working Group is intensifying investigations into prominent Democrats, with Director Ed Martin confirming criminal referrals involving Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) and New York Attorney General Letitia James are under review. Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump hinted that controversial pardons related to the January 6th investigation, issued by President Joe Biden, could be revoked.
Speaking on Fox News, Martin said Attorney General Pam Bondi has ordered a full probe into what he called “a decade of dirty tricks” against Trump and his supporters. Part of the investigation focuses on the origins of the “Russia hoax,” with claims that the Obama administration colluded with media to promote the narrative in late 2016.
Martin also said the DOJ is examining alleged false statements on mortgage paperwork tied to Schiff and James, emphasizing that all Americans must follow the law.
Trump criticized Biden’s pardons linked to the House January 6th select committee, accusing them of being fraudulent and referencing reports that Biden aides used an autopen to sign thousands of pardons without his direct approval. These clemency actions included controversial sentence reductions, sparking internal DOJ concerns about their legality.
A December 2024 White House memo praised Biden’s clemency moves as historic, following backlash over his son Hunter Biden’s pardon. The Trump White House Counsel has launched its own review and recommended further interviews with Biden staffers. While revoking pardons is rare and legally complex, Trump’s remarks suggest his administration may pursue this step, especially concerning January 6th-related pardons.
