A social media post attributed to a Secret Service agent appeared to approve of the assassination of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk on Wednesday. RealClearPolitics reporter Susan Crabtree highlighted a Facebook post under the name Anthony Pough, who she identified as a Secret Service agent. The post stated, “You can’t circumvent karma, she doesn’t leave,” seemingly referencing Kirk’s murder, and called Kirk someone who “spews hate and racism on his show.” However, it remains unclear whether the person behind the post is truly a Secret Service agent.
Crabtree noted that some Secret Service members expressed concern over the post, as it appeared to celebrate the death of a political figure honored by President Trump with the Presidential Medal of Freedom. She raised questions about whether such political views could affect the agent’s ability to protect Trump or other officials effectively.
A source within the Secret Service told Crabtree that celebrating the death of someone exercising political rights is dangerous and problematic for someone sworn to protect all citizens. The suspected agent was reportedly critical of Trump and was not assigned to a detail regularly protecting the former president, though all agents can be temporarily assigned to presidential coverage.
The post also echoed criticisms of Kirk, claiming he made racist remarks during a 2023 show, referencing his comments on black women and affirmative action. This fueled further controversy around Kirk and his public statements.
This situation comes amid broader political tensions involving figures like Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and ongoing debates around transgender issues. These topics have sparked heated discussions on security and ideology within law enforcement circles.
