Charlie Kirk, the 31-year-old founder of Turning Point USA, was fatally shot in the neck on Wednesday, September 10, while speaking at Utah Valley University. The attack occurred in front of a crowd of over 3,000 people as Kirk answered a question under a white gazebo. After being struck by a single bullet, Kirk collapsed and was rushed to the hospital by his security team. Former President Donald Trump later confirmed Kirk’s death, calling him a “legendary” figure who deeply connected with America’s youth.
On September 12, during a press conference, the FBI and Utah authorities identified the suspected shooter as 22-year-old Tyler Robinson. The young man, from Utah, was reportedly turned in by a family member, believed to be his father. Surveillance footage showed Robinson arriving in a Dodge Challenger and wearing clothing that matched witness reports. Police later confirmed his identity and released a mugshot to the public.
Investigators recovered the weapon used in the attack—a bolt-action rifle wrapped in a towel and equipped with a scope. Disturbingly, several unused bullet casings were found with strange inscriptions, including “Hey fascist! Catch!” and “If you read this you are gay lmao.” These messages have fueled questions about Robinson’s mental health and ideological motives.
Governor Spencer Cox revealed that Robinson had recently become more politically radicalized. During a family dinner, he reportedly voiced strong dislike for Kirk, accusing him of spreading hate. Additional evidence from Discord messages showed Robinson discussing the rifle’s location and planning clothing changes.
Authorities believe Robinson acted alone in the assassination, but the investigation remains ongoing. They continue to review digital communications, witness testimonies, and forensic evidence to determine whether others may have been aware of or involved in the planning.
