Charlie Kirk Shooting: New Details Emerge About Suspect Tyler Robinson
New developments have surfaced in the investigation of Charlie Kirk’s assassination, as Utah Gov. Spencer Cox revealed that Tyler Robinson’s roommate provided Discord messages discussing hiding a rifle and “engraving bullets.” Robinson, 22, was arrested Thursday night after a nationwide manhunt. The messages allegedly detailed plans to leave a scoped rifle wrapped in a towel near Utah Valley University, where Kirk was fatally shot during a speaking event.
According to Cox, the roommate identified the messages as Robinson’s and claimed the suspect had joked about the weapon on Discord prior to the shooting. Law enforcement later recovered a Mauser Model 98, .30-06 caliber rifle wrapped in a dark towel in a wooded area near the scene, consistent with the roommate’s account. Additional messages reportedly referenced changing clothes and watching the location after hiding the weapon.
However, Discord later challenged the claims that its platform hosted the messages. In a statement, the company confirmed Robinson had an account but said its internal review found no evidence of planning or promoting violence through its services. Instead, the messages Cox referenced were reportedly from private conversations between the roommate and a friend after the incident, recounting a note left by Robinson.
Robinson was ultimately identified and turned in by his father, who recognized him in FBI-released surveillance images. Former President Donald Trump reacted strongly, saying on Fox & Friends, “I hope he gets the death penalty.” Robinson remains in custody without bail and is expected to face charges of aggravated murder and related offenses.
Charlie Kirk, 31, was the founder of Turning Point USA and a prominent conservative voice. He is survived by his wife and two young children. Memorial service details have not yet been announced.
