Charlie Kirk Murder Suspect Silent as Discord Confession Emerges
Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old accused of assassinating conservative activist Charlie Kirk, is refusing to cooperate with authorities, Utah Governor Spencer Cox said Sunday. However, private Discord messages obtained by investigators suggest Robinson admitted to the crime before his arrest.
“He has not confessed to authorities,” Cox said on ABC’s This Week. “He is not cooperating, but all the people around him are.” Robinson was arrested Thursday night after a 33-hour manhunt. Officials say he hinted at involvement to a family member, who alerted law enforcement.
Despite Robinson’s silence, digital evidence is mounting. Screenshots reviewed by The Washington Post show Robinson posted in a private Discord chat hours before his arrest: “It was me at UVU yesterday. I’m sorry for all of this.” He also announced plans to surrender, thanking friends for their support.
Discord confirmed it shared Robinson’s messages with law enforcement. The company stated there was “no evidence the suspect planned this incident or promoted violence” on the platform. Meanwhile, investigators are combing through the chat logs and other digital records for more context and possible accomplices.
Governor Cox also revealed that Robinson’s romantic partner—his transgender roommate—is cooperating fully. The motive remains unclear, but Cox said Robinson had political clashes with his conservative family and expressed disdain for Kirk in the days leading up to the shooting. Formal charges are expected Tuesday as the investigation continues.
